IBMC.INEB Associate Laboratory

Research Institution In Life and Health Sciences from Portugal. The IBMC.INEB-Associate Laboratory is a consortium that includes the IBMC (Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology) and the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (INEB), which has been granted the statute of Associate Laboratory of the Portuguese Ministry of Science and Technology. IBMC.INEB is a multi-disciplinary research institution located at Porto, with a range of research topics that include stress and structural biology, genetic and infectious diseases, neurosciences and biomedical engineering. It harbours over 37 research groups from different scientific backgrounds, all devoted to basic research that often finds applications in biomedicine and biotechnology. IBMC.INEB preserves both an academic and scientific close relation with the University of Porto, at the institutional and research level. Valuable collaborations are maintained with other public and private universities and a couple of small and medium size enterprises. Characterized by being socially active with a clear social impact, the institute participates in projects to educate people about diagnosis, prevention, biotechnology and bioengineering; it maintains a national Ph.D. training programme and collaborates with the government in defining scientific and technological policies.
