Bénin : Le maïs stocké contient trop de résidus de pesticides

[COTONOU, SciDev.Net] Une étude publiée dans la revue Science Direct met en garde contre la présence de résidus de pesticides dans le maïs stocké au Bénin, dépassant les limites fixées par l’Union européenne.

En effet, indique l’étude, le souci de protection du maïs contre les insectes nuisibles pendant le stockage incite les producteurs à recourir à des produits chimiques de synthèse dont la mauvaise utilisation peut entraîner des niveaux élevés de résidus.

Par exemple, « le phosphure d’aluminium a été détecté dans 40 à 100 % des échantillons, selon les localités, mais toujours à des niveaux supérieurs aux normes », explique Olivier Tonato, chercheur en entomologie agricole et en protection des végétaux, premier auteur de l’étude.
