The Rector of the University of Granada (UGR), Pedro Mercado Pacheco, and the Director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero, have signed an agreement setting out joint actions to promote Spanish as an academic and scientific language, both nationally and internationally.
Among other undertakings, the agreement will foster the joint organisation of activities designed to raise the profile of scientific work conducted in Spanish. It will also promote Spanish-language scientific publications through journal catalogues and open access platforms. Moreover, both institutions will work to boost the development of university programmes in Spanish, including undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as Spanish language and culture courses for international audiences.
The agreement, which can be renewed every four years, also covers the creation of text corpora for AI research, the generation and dissemination of scientific content via digital platforms and academic networks, and the organisation of outreach events for audiences of all types. Likewise, it will enhance the visibility of relevant resources, works and activities, while boosting the cross-promotion of initiatives on the digital channels of the Cervantes Institute and the UGR. This approach aims to ensure widespread dissemination among their respective communities.
