AutoPanelSizer 6.0: less waste, improved cutting plans, faster results

With the release of version 6.0, Fraunhofer SCAI is taking AutoPanelSizer to the next level. The optimization software for cutting plans is now more precise and flexible, while saving even more material.

Sankt Augustin – AutoPanelSizer generates optimized cutting plans for rectangular parts made from wood, metal, glass, and similar sheet materials. While the software previously allowed for only three cutting stages, users can now freely configure the nesting depth. It supports unlimited rotation of the workpiece and cutting with millimeter precision. This offers major advantages, especially for small woodworking shops: less waste, more usable parts, lower costs. Anyone working with expensive materials benefits from significant savings.

The new version performs better with difficult cases. AutoPanelSizer positions larger parts more efficiently, leading to higher material yield and less scrap.

Waste that fits the system
In industrial sawing lines, waste pieces often need to pass through a hatch. AutoPanelSizer 6.0 addresses this by allowing users to define a maximum allowable waste dimension. The software then adjusts the cutting pattern automatically and minimizes unnecessary cuts. Users can also specify whether off-cuts appear at the front or rear end of the board.

Industrial sawing lines with robot destacking benefit from two key improvements:

  • More flexible destacking: Pallets of fully cut parts can now be swapped during cutting, not just between board changes. This allows for additional parts per board and reduces material consumption.
  • Fewer robot movements: AutoPanelSizer positions identical parts side by side so the robot can pick and destack multiple pieces in one go. This streamlines the handling process and saves time.

Greater control, less overproduction
AutoPanelSizer 6.0 provides users with enhanced control over their planning processes: Users can prioritize specific board formats to align better with their material inventory. The software allows for fully configurable evaluations of optional parts, enabling users to precisely control overproduction and tailor their production to meet actual demand.

Benefits for crafts and industry
AutoPanelSizer is a versatile solution: The software optimizes cutting plans for fully automated industrial plants with two saws and for flexible panel dividing saws in carpentry shops. While speed and throughput are crucial in industrial settings, craft businesses benefit greatly from material savings of more complex plans.

AutoPanelSizer is designed for companies that wish to integrate optimization solutions into their systems. It does not come with its own user interface or direct machine integration. Small businesses therefore do not use AutoPanelSizer directly, but rather via suitable solutions from their software providers.

Testimonials

For well over a decade, in my capacity as a researcher, broadcaster, and producer, I have relied heavily on Alphagalileo.
All of my work trips have been planned around stories that I've found on this site.
The under embargo section allows us to plan ahead and the news releases enable us to find key experts.
Going through the tailored daily updates is the best way to start the day. It's such a critical service for me and many of my colleagues.

We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.
Peter Dunn, Director of Press and Media Relations at the University of Warwick
AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
