SELINA launches dedicated website section for its Communities of Practice

16/06/2025 Pensoft Publishers

The SELINA project announces the launch of a newly established section on its public project website, showcasing the Communities of Practice (CoPs) and their mission to promote collaborative learning and knowledge integration across Europe.

The Communities of Practice initiative serves as a vital platform for knowledge exchange, learning, and stakeholder engagement, involving scientists, policymakers, practitioners, and business representatives from across Europe. Their overarching aim is to facilitate the practical application of ecosystem knowledge, thereby supporting more sustainable and informed decisions at different levels.

The CoPs represent the culmination of over 23 months of joint efforts, including more than 19 partner meetings and the active involvement of nearly all SELINA partners. This extensive collaboration has resulted in the establishment of x national/regional communities and the publication of 29 approved factsheets, providing detailed insights into the country’s ongoing contributions to incorporating biodiversity, ecosystem condition, ecosystem services and ecosystem accounting into public and private decision-making processes.

Each Community of Practice contributes to three key objectives:

  1. In the short term: To act as national platform supporting knowledge exchange and learning throughout the SELINA project;

  2. In the intermediate term: To establish a long-lasting structure that enables participants to continue collaboration and mutual learning also beyond the project’s duration;

  3. In the long term: To build a robust, self-sustaining network of national CoPs that continues to share expertise and experience well after the project concludes.

In addition, SELINA encourages cross-national collaboration between CoPs, enabling the exchange of best practices and joint exploration of shared challenges. These interactions may be facilitated through SELINA-dialogues or arranged autonomously by the communities.

Visit the new Communities of Practice page and explore how SELINA is driving change across Europe. The new website section will be continuously updated as CoPs hold new meetings and revise their factsheets, ensuring that the platform remains dynamic and reflective of ongoing developments.

If you want to join the Community of Practice in your country, please contact the national contact person or the SELINA Work Package lead inge.liekens@vito.be

Testimonials

For well over a decade, in my capacity as a researcher, broadcaster, and producer, I have relied heavily on Alphagalileo.
All of my work trips have been planned around stories that I've found on this site.
The under embargo section allows us to plan ahead and the news releases enable us to find key experts.
Going through the tailored daily updates is the best way to start the day. It's such a critical service for me and many of my colleagues.
Koula Bouloukos, Senior manager, Editorial & Production Underknown
We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.
Peter Dunn, Director of Press and Media Relations at the University of Warwick
AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
