Probably the most remarkable feature of human cognition, creativity is at the core of scientific innovation and drives art in all its forms. It is what explains progress, revolutions, crises and their resolution. But the way it works is still shrouded in mystery and raises many questions. What do we know about creativity? Who has it? What can we do to enhance it?

To address these questions, the BIAL Foundation is gathering some of the most prominent neuroscientists, psychologists, philosophers, and artists, engaging them in a profoundly, interdisciplinary dialogue on what is one of the most defining characteristics of the human mind.

The 14th "Beyond and Beyond the Brain" Symposium, to be held from 3 to 6 April at the Casa do Médico in Porto, has "Creativity" as its central theme.

"Creativity is at the root of all great human achievements, be they artistic, scientific or technological. Because it subtends so much of human progress, it can be discussed from many different perspectives. Such interdisciplinary thinking is precisely what we aim to achieve with the 14th Symposium of BIAL Foundation, during which 25 world-renowned experts in the field of creativity will bring their own perspectives, thoughts and findings on the issue," says Axel Cleeremans, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the "Beyond and Beyond the Brain" Symposium.

Cleeremans also emphasises that "attendees will be particularly engaged by the artistic aspects of the Symposium, and by the participatory workshops and performances during which all will have an opportunity to experience creativity first hand".

We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.

AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.

AlphaGalileo is a great source of global research news. I use it regularly.
