Connecting researchers, Sharing achievements, and Creating new partnerships

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), together with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore, will hold the "1st ASEAN-NEXUS Symposium" and the "1st ASEAN-NEXUS Networking Forum" in Tokyo, Japan, on December 7-8, 2026.

Since its inception, Networked Exchange, United Strength for Stronger Partnerships between Japan and ASEAN (NEXUS) has supported more than 50 international joint research projects in a wide range of fields and has enabled two-way exchanges involving approximately 1,000 young researchers from ASEAN countries and Japan under the Young Talents Exchange and Capacity Development Program (Y-tec).
This Symposium and the Networking Forum provide a platform to present and share the achievements, progress, and research outcomes generated under NEXUS. It also seeks to strengthen research networks and facilitate meaningful exchanges that transcend disciplinary and research-area boundaries, with the aim of inspiring new collaborations and advancing international joint research projects.

What is NEXUS ?
Networked Exchange, United Strength for Stronger Partnerships between Japan and ASEAN
NEXUS is a flexible and multi-layered cooperative framework, leveraged by the long history of science and technology cooperation between both sides with the opportunity of the "50th anniversary of friendship and cooperation between Japan and ASEAN." It is aimed to further strengthen the cooperative research relationship between Japan and ASEAN as partners in co-creating innovations in science and technology. The three schemes below are detailed approaches.

About the Japan Science and Technology Agency
Our world faces unprecedented global challenges — such as climate change, energy crises, and emerging infectious diseases — that demand innovative solutions. JST will rise to these challenges through “Science and Technology,” as a national research and development agency that plays a central role in implementing Japan’s science, technology, and innovation policy. We support fundamental research and startups to create new value, develop R&D strategies, foster the next generation of talent, disseminate vital information, and manage the Japan University Fund. Like a compass guiding ships through turbulent waters, JST will chart the way towards a vibrant and secure future by empowering science through a multifaceted approach. https://www.jst.go.jp/EN/

We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.
Peter Dunn, Director of Press and Media Relations at the University of Warwick
AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
