Published on Thursday 17 September, the 2027 edition of the American magazine Newsweek’s World’s Best Specialized Hospitals ranking names Gustave Roussy the world’s third-best specialised cancer hospital.
Produced each year in collaboration with Statista, the ranking is based on an online survey of tens of thousands of healthcare professionals, internationally recognised accreditations such as France’s HAS certification, and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).

A Global Top Three Position Helping Accelerate Access to Cancer Innovation

Gustave Roussy’s confirmed place among the world’s leading cancer centres is first and foremost rooted in a tangible reality: excellence in patient care. In 2025, the Institute cared for more than 54,000 patients, including 2,800 children and adolescents. This activity reflects a strengthened capacity to welcome, diagnose, and treat a growing number of patients with all forms of cancer, including the most complex cases.

This growth has been accompanied by increased access to innovation. In 2025, 40.5% of patients were enrolled in a clinical study, while more than 900 benefited from early access to innovative therapies through DITEP, the Drug Development Department.

At Gustave Roussy, research is directly integrated into patient care. Researchers, physicians and healthcare professionals work together to better understand each cancer and its underlying mechanisms, identify new therapeutic targets, and translate scientific discoveries into concrete benefits for patients more rapidly.

New Medical and Scientific Programmes

This momentum is being strengthened through the deployment of four new medical and scientific programmes: PancDEMIC, Cell-ATTACK, DECRIPT and INSPIRE. These initiatives focus on some of the most pressing challenges in oncology, including paediatric cancers, pancreatic cancers and innovative cellular therapies. They bring together research and clinical teams around a shared ambition: accelerating progress in both common cancers and the most aggressive tumours.

The programmes also reinforce Gustave Roussy’s international attractiveness. They offer talent from France and around the world an environment where fundamental research, translational research, early-phase clinical trials, cutting-edge technological platforms and industrial development are brought together on a single campus.

A Recognition That Marks the Start of a New Phase

This third place worldwide comes as Gustave Roussy rolls out its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan. Over the next five years, the Institute aims to develop ever more personalised treatment pathways, strengthen high-impact research for patients, and accelerate the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in both research and care.
