The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) once again announces the “Communicator Award – Science Award of Stifterverband”. Endowed with €50,000, the award goes to an individual researcher or a research team that has made an outstanding contribution to science communication. The DFG and Stifterverband present the award each year to researchers in any research area who make their work and their specialist area accessible to a wider audience in a particularly innovative, diverse and effective way, thereby proactively promoting dialogue between the research community and society. Applications and nominations can be submitted to the DFG by 30 September 2026.

This announcement is directed at researchers working at higher education institutions or non-university research institutions in Germany. The aim of the DFG and Stifterverband in presenting the award and the award money is to encourage prizewinners to further develop their activities in the area of science communication.Applications and nominations are evaluated by a jury of communication experts chaired by a member of the DFG Executive Committee. The recipient(s) will be announced in spring 2027. The award will be presented on 27 June 2027 at the DFG annual meeting in Marburg.

Note: Submissions may only be made via the DFG’s elan portal. Registration on the portal is mandatory prior to applying; in the case of team applications, each team member must have their own elan account. You must register on the portal by 23 September 2026 in order to ensure timely submission when using the elan portal for the first time.
