Stem Cell Reports, the peer-reviewed, open-access journal of the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR), today announced the appointment of two new Early Career Editors – Bo Shen, Ph.D., Principal Investigator at the National Institute of Biological Sciences, Beijing (NIBS) and Assistant Professor at Tsinghua University, China; and Luca Peruzzotti-Jametti, M.D., Ph.D., Clinical Principal Research Associate at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, and Group Leader at the MS Society Cambridge Centre for Myelin Repair (CCMR) at the University of Cambridge; and Honorary Senior Lecturer, Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction, Imperial College London, UK.

The journal’s Early Career Editors bring accomplished emerging leaders into the Stem Cell Reports editorial process, broadening disciplinary expertise while strengthening the journal’s geographic and scientific diversity. During their terms, Early Career Editors provide strategic advice, participate in peer review, and receive mentorship from senior editors – while gaining exposure to research beyond their immediate fields and increasing their visibility within the global stem cell community.
Bo Shen, Ph.D., is an internationally recognized stem cell biologist whose research focuses on the molecular regulation of hematopoietic and skeletal stem cells and the role of the extracellular matrix in adult stem cell fate. Trained in Dr. Sean Morrison’s laboratory, he has made contributions to bone marrow niche biology, including discoveries involving Osteolectin/Integrin α11 signaling, mechanosensitive peri-arteriolar niches, and neural regulation of regeneration. Based at NIBS with a joint appointment at Tsinghua University, Dr. Shen brings a strong commitment to international collaboration and scientific excellence.
Luca Peruzzotti-Jametti, M.D., Ph.D., is a clinician-scientist whose work bridges stem cell biology, immunometabolism, and neuroinflammation. His research has revealed how metabolic pathways regulate stem cell self-renewal, differentiation, and immune interactions, advancing regenerative strategies for neurological disease. He has led studies on mitochondrial transfer from neural stem cells to immune cells and contributed to a Phase 1 clinical trial of neural stem cell transplantation in progressive multiple sclerosis. Dr. Peruzzotti-Jametti's expertise strengthens the journal’s translational and clinical focus.
With these appointments, Stem Cell Reports continues to invest in the next generation of editorial leadership – supporting rigorous peer review, interdisciplinary science, and a truly global research community.
