LRMs cathode based all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries with an energy density beyond 400 Wh kg-1

Due to their high energy density and safety, all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries (ASSLBs) with lithium-rich manganese-based materials (LRMs) are exploited as next-generation energy storage systems. However, the severe interfacial degradations with halide solid electrolytes (SEs) caused by the irreversible oxygen release remain a big challenge.
Herein, we synthesized Cr-substituted LRMs with high capacity and stability. The reversible redox of Cr3+/Cr6+ contributes to an enhanced capacity, accompanied by the reversible migration of Cr6+ ions between octahedral and tetrahedral sites, effectively maintaining the structural stability of LRMs. Meanwhile, the strong Cr–O bond can stabilize the lattice oxygen, establish a stable cathode/electrolyte interface, and alleviate the voltage decay.
This work paves a path for rationally designing LRMs cathode to achieve advanced ASSBs with high energy density and long cycling stability. The work titled “Cr-doped lithium-rich manganese-based materials as a cathode for high-performance all-solid-state lithium batteries”, was published on Acta Physico-Chimica Sinica (published on Oct. 14, 2025).

We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.

AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
