EWRR Becomes an Official EULAR Congress

Welcoming the European Workshop for Rheumatology Research

EULAR – The European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology – will join forces with the European Workshop for Rheumatology Research (EWRR), bringing the prestigious Workshop as an additional scientific meeting under the EULAR umbrella. This reinforces EULAR’s commitment to basic and translational research, supporting knowledge and growth in the field of rheumatology.

EWRR is recognised as a friendly and interactive forum for basic and translational researchers working in rheumatology. The initial meeting took place in 1981, and four decades later it is still providing up-to-date information – helping to unpick the basic mechanisms of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs), and supporting the development of advanced treatment options. Considered Europe’s premier event for basic and translational research in the field of rheumatology, its core aim is to attract young scientists and to give them the opportunity to present their work in an informal environment.

The next EWRR Congress will take place from 16 – 18 April 2026 in Lübeck, Germany, and EULAR will work with the Lübeck University and the EWRR organisation as a logistics partner. The 45th EWRR programme will include nine major scientific sessions and six keynote lectures – with a further 27 state-of-the art lectures delivered by some of the most renowned international researchers. Additionally, the programme will include short oral presentations, plus guided poster tours. Alongside the many learning opportunities, there will be time for scientific and social networking to connect and foster new collaborations.

From 2027 onwards, the EWRR Congress will be fully organised by EULAR and will become an integral part of EULAR’s meeting portfolio. A dedicated EWRR Sub-Committee will be formed to build on the success of this well-established meeting as it comes under the EULAR banner, and we look forward to supporting the dissemination of key research into RMD.

About EULAR

EULAR is the European umbrella organisation representing scientific societies, health professional associations and organisations for people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs). EULAR aims to reduce the impact of RMDs on individuals and society, as well as improve RMD treatments, prevention, and rehabilitation. To this end, EULAR fosters excellence in rheumatology education and research, promotes the translation of research advances into daily care, and advocates for the recognition of the needs of those living with RMDs by EU institutions.

We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.

AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
