CZone:Efficient Serverless Container Management for Drastic Memory Reduction

Sub-headline:SJTU researchers propose a dynamic MCPV model and CZone mechanism, slashing memory footprint by 90%

In serverless computing, the Single-Container-Per-VM(SCPV)model ensures security but causes significant memory waste due to redundant guestOS instances.A team from Shanghai Jiao Tong University developed CZone,a framework that enables a dynamic Multi-Containers-Per-VM(MCPV)model with efficient memory hot-plug/unplug capabilities.By ensuring contiguous physical memory allocation for each container,CZone overcomes performance degradation and incomplete memory reclamation.Compared to standard SCPV,CZone reduces startup latency by 81.81%and memory footprint by 89.87%,dramatically increasing deployment density.

Experimental results show that CZone brings an 81.81%reduction in startup latency and an 89.87%reduction in memory footprint compared to current SCPV models.

Testimonios

We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.
Peter Dunn, Director of Press and Media Relations at the University of Warwick
AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
Ben Deighton, SciDevNet
AlphaGalileo is a great source of global research news. I use it regularly.
