The IP4OS project has launched a
practice-oriented capacity-building programme supporting Research Performing Organisations in applying a concerted Intellectual Property (IP) and Open Science (OS) approach to Research Knowledge Valorisation. Built on the IP4OS Synergy Core Curriculum and the knowledge consolidated in the
Synergy Framework, the programme contributes to the objectives of the European Research Area Policy Agenda 2025–2027, equipping institutions with the tools and collaborative structures needed to translate IP-OS principles into sustainable practice.
The programme addresses institutional collaboration, workflows, and decision-making across the research lifecycle, recognising that effective knowledge valorisation requires coordinated action across multiple professions. It is structured around two complementary levels. The Pilot Learning Lab is an action-oriented training sprint in which multi-professional teams work with real institutional cases across three sessions, supported by fieldwork phases in between. Designed as a safe-to-fail experimental space, it helps institutions clarify roles, test collaboration mechanisms, and develop concrete next steps. Complementing this, openly available Profession Deepening Modules and a comprehensive Toolbox are published on
Zenodo and freely reusable. The Modules feature European experts from librarianship, knowledge and technology transfer, research management, and data stewardship. The Toolbox provides practical instruments such as the
Knowledge Valorisation Rubric, the
FAIR-R²L Rubric, and a
Guide on Multi-professional Teams and Consultations.
The programme is designed for multi-professional constellations including researchers, technology transfer and IP professionals, librarians, data stewards, research managers, and institutional trainers. All materials are openly available and adaptable for local use.
This work forms the operational backbone of IP4OS's Europe-wide capacity-building activities. In 2026, IP4OS trains multi-professional teams across EU Member States and builds a pan-European Community of Practice in Research and Innovation. Institutions not participating in a pilot are welcome to explore the resources and engage with the IP4OS community.
