DTU once again on top as Europe’s best technical university

The EngiRank ranking has expanded to include more countries, but DTU still holds first place for the third consecutive year.

For the third consecutive year, DTU ranks first on EngiRank, a survey of the top technical universities in Europe. This year, EngiRank has expanded its list of universities to 239, including 15 from the United Kingdom.

“This is a great recognition, not only of DTU as a university but also of our researchers, teachers, students, and staff. The first year, it was a completely new ranking, but now that we have been named Europe’s best technical university for the third consecutive year, it truly solidifies our position. It shows that our targeted efforts to combine world-class research with innovation and international collaboration have made a clear impact,” says DTU president Anders Bjarklev.

Top in chemical, environmental, and mechanical engineering

EngiRank’s European Ranking of Engineering Programmes are based on five criteria: research, innovation, internationalization, interdisciplinarity and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 9, which aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.

The ranking weighs factors such as research and innovation funding, as well as universities’ international alliances and partnerships. EngiRank also ranks universities within specific research fields, and here DTU leads in chemical, environmental, and mechanical engineering.

Extra fuel

DTU President Anders Bjarklev will receive the honour at EngiRank’s award ceremony in Brussels and is proud of the recognition.

“DTU wants to be at the very top, and our position on EngiRank’s ranking signals that our staff and students dare to think big. We do not compete to win prizes or trophies, but to create knowledge that makes a difference. When the world acknowledges that, it gives us extra fuel to continue pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve as a university,” says Anders Bjarklev.

EngiRank is published by the Polish Perspektywy Education Foundation, which has produced various education rankings in Poland for nearly 25 years. EngiRank is based on recognized data sources, including CORDIS and the European Education Area, as well as publication and citation statistics from the Scopus database and patent statistics from the European Patent Office.
