The NBSINFRA City Lab Booklets: Local Solutions for Climate-Resilient Cities

19/05/2025 youris.com

Through five City Labs, the NBSINFRA project explores how tailored, nature-based strategies can help cities face environmental challenges, restore ecosystems, and protect essential infrastructure and services

The NBSINFRA project has five city labs across Europe (Cologne, Fingal, Prague, Ruse, and Aveiro), each assessing how cities can handle different challenges and stay resilient through Nature-based Solutions. Each city focuses on solutions that not only reduce local risks like flooding or heatwaves, but also help restore ecosystems, support biodiversity, and strengthen urban infrastructure in a sustainable way.

To showcase the insights gathered from each City Lab, a dedicated booklet was created for every city. These booklets highlight practical examples of how nature-based approaches can support urban resilience and planning, offering localized learnings and guidance for policymakers, planners, and communities across Europe and beyond.

Elisabete Teixeira from UMINHO, coordinator of the NBSINFRA project, explains: “The NBSINFRA City Lab Booklets capture the first valuable findings from our five City Labs. They reflect the early stages of the project in co-creating Nature-based Solutions with local communities, tailored to each city's specific challenges. While not final outcomes, these booklets offer a snapshot of the ongoing work and a foundation for future actions, serving as inspiration for others working toward more climate-resilient and sustainable cities.”

Testimonios

We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.
Peter Dunn, Director of Press and Media Relations at the University of Warwick
AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
