Isabelle Mossong appointed Secretary General of the FNR

The Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) announces the appointment of Isabelle Mossong as Secretary General. She will take up her duties on 1 January 2026. This decision follows a rigorous selection process conducted by the Board of Directors and reflects a desire to strengthen the FNR's leadership at a key moment for the national research ecosystem.

A historian by training, Isabelle Mossong holds a doctorate in Ancient History, obtained through a joint programme between the Freie Universität Berlin and the University of Strasbourg. A specialist in Latin epigraphy, she has pursued an international academic and scientific career, notably at the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut (DAI), a public institution under the German Federal Foreign Office. In 2016, she joined the Kommission für Alte Geschichte und Epigraphik of the DAI, based in Munich, and has since contributed to several research projects and reference publications. She has also collaborated with institutions in Luxembourg, participated in European initiatives, and regularly taught at the University of Augsburg and the LMU Munich.

As a Luxembourger, she has a strong understanding of the dynamics within the national research system. Her career has led her to work in demanding, multicultural scientific environments rooted in international cooperation. She joins the FNR with solid experience in the functioning of research institutions and a deep understanding of the requirements for scientific quality, international collaboration, and interdisciplinary work.

Her arrival will help strengthen exchanges between research stakeholders, institutions, and FNR partners. She brings a collaborative and open approach, conducive to collective work and to the continuity of the FNR's missions in the service of public research.

Isabelle Mossong: "I am very grateful for the trust placed in me. The FNR plays an essential role in the development of research in Luxembourg, and I am delighted to contribute to this mission alongside the team."

Martine Reicherts, Chair of the FNR Board of Directors: "The Board of Directors has selected a profile whose scientific experience and independence match the needs of the FNR to support its evolution."

We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.
Peter Dunn, Director of Press and Media Relations at the University of Warwick
AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
