Sophia Antipolis, France - 16 April 2026: ESC Preventive Cardiology 2026, the annual congress of the
European Association of Preventive Cardiology (EAPC), a branch of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
“Cardiovascular risk management is more than simply filling in a prescription. We often treat patients with multiple conditions, different cultural backgrounds and health beliefs, and, in some cases, uncertain or limited access to ongoing care,” says Prof.

This year’s congress will focus on ‘Real-world and Next-Generation strategies’ in preventive cardiology, with a strong emphasis on bridging the gap between clinical guidelines and real-world practice. The congress will explore how today’s socio-economic, epidemiological, and environmental realities affect guideline implementation in cardiovascular prevention.
“We will debate whether novel pharmacological and digital tools are only for the privileged, exploring how diversity, health equity, and patient perspectives shape access to care,” says Dr.
Nicolle Kränkel, Congress Programme Committee Chair. “And on the other hand, it is about opportunities: how can new pharmacologic and digital solutions help to mitigate today’s challenges: allocation of limited resources, polypharmacy and shared decision making.”
Programme Highlights
- ‘Guidelines in Practice’ will explore the implementation of recent clinical guidelines on hypertension, cardiovascular health during pregnancy, lipids, and mental health.
- Joint sessions with sister societies from the Americas and Asia will provide cross-cultural perspectives by comparing regionally different approaches.
- Cardiometabolic risk management will be addressed in sessions covering lipid disorders, obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, heart failure, and sarcopenia.
- A comprehensive programme on competitive athletes, recreational sports, and exercise-based prevention and rehabilitation.
