TIMBERHAUS launches video to showcase a new vision for sustainable construction in Europe

The project TIMBERHAUS has released a video introducing its mission to transform how wood is used in construction and to support a circular, climate-positive future for Europe.
The construction sector is one of the largest contributors to climate change, responsible for approximately 40% of CO2 emissions and half of all extracted materials. TIMBERHAUS addresses this challenge, presenting not only the environmental impact but also the vast opportunity for systemic change.
TIMBERHAUS is a four-year project bringing together leading researchers, architects, urban planners, cities, and industries across the continent. Its goal is to rethink construction by unlocking the full potential of wood through technological and cultural innovation.
The video presents this vision, highlighting how the project is developing intelligent wood technologies using artificial intelligence and machine learning. These innovations focus on converting underused wood species and post-consumer timber into high-performance building materials — turning waste into valuable resources.
More than just a technical transformation, TIMBERHAUS is also fostering a cultural shift in how we design and inhabit buildings. By working closely with communities and professionals, the project is developing blueprints for healthy, adaptable, and multi-story wooden buildings.
These designs are rooted in local traditions, optimised for well-being, and envisioned for long-term reuse and disassembly.
Through collaborative development of digital tools, demonstration buildings, and new public-private business models, TIMBERHAUS is laying the groundwork for sustainable urban construction across Europe.
