New film streaming Oct. 2 on takes viewers on front lines of a medical revolution

HHMI Tangled Bank Studios is set to launch THE GENE DOCTORS, a new film exploring genetic illnesses caused by a single error in one of our many genes. These illnesses are often severe and can rob people of sight, breath, movement and life. More than 1 million babies are born each year with a genetic disease.

The Gene DoctoRs will be available to stream on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, on and for broadcast on local PBS stations. The film’s release comes at a time when gene therapies are making headlines as they move through the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) review process. The one-hour film not only follows the journeys of patients and families living with genetic illnesses, such as inherited blindness, cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy, but also includes the stories of doctors and scientists who take aim at the root causes of these diseases.
