Add or edit... > Release
This form takes your release and transfers it to our database for checking by the manager on the site duty. Below are some hints on how best to use the form.
Page 1
- Main title - Keep the title as short as possible.
- Main text - Do not leave a blank line at the start of the main text. Add a line before each new paragraph, so that the text has a cleaner look. Please do not use HTML formatting.
- Summary - Keep the summary text informative but short (not longer than one paragraph).
- Does your news relate to information published in a peer-reviewed publication - Enter the details of the publication here.
- Notes for editors - Enter here the contact details for the journalists and / or the background information about the research and your organisation.
- Reference URL - Paste the link to your organisation's home page or media page.
- Posting language - Choose the language of your news from the drop-down menu.
- Restricted access to the news - You may choose this option if you wish that only registered journalists can view your news. The release will not be displayed on the public site.
- Embargoed news - Choose an embargo period to prevent publication of the material before the date and time specified. This gives journalists time to undertake background research and prepare their articles or programmes. Only registered journalists can view an embargoed item before the embargo expires. You can also add notes for editors and choose which will appear while the release is under embargo, and after the embargo expires.
- Alternative contact - If you are entering a release on behalf of a colleague, or you wish to provide a primary contact other than yourself, select this option and enter their full name, organisation's phone number and email address.
- File attachments - Upload up to 5 attachments you would like to post along with your release (i.e., background information, pictures). We accept the following file types: DOC, JPG, JPEG, GIF, PDF, TIF, TIFF, MPEG, AVI, RM, MOV, BMP, MPG and PPT. There is a limit of 4MB on movie files and 1MB on all other files. Filenames have to consist solely of alphanumeric characters, underscores (_) and hyphens (-). Please use the caption field to indicate if the attachment is protected by copyright.
- Submit - The 'Submit' button takes you to the next page of the online form.

- Keywords - Keywords describe the scientific area of your news. The keywords are used to split up content into the six areas of the AlphaGalileo site (Science, Technology, Health, Arts, Humanities, Society) and to allow journalists to select their email alerts by subject area. These email alerts are sent to subscribing journalists as soon as your release goes live on AlphaGalileo.
- Notes to the site team - Please enter here any questions or requests to the AlphaGalileo team.
- Preview - The 'Preview' button allows you to see how your release will be displayed on the live site.
- Submit - The 'Submit' button sends the release to AlphaGalileo team. The news is reviewed by a team member on site duty and published on the website shortly.
