An Innovative Study On The Abortion Debate In Japan

20 March 2009 Amsterdam University Press

The history of abortion debate, feminism and handicapped people’s movement in Japan has hardly been researched in English. Moreover, no book about Japanese feminism has explored the concept of ‘right’ – how this concept has played a role to cause disagreement and misunderstanding between movements of handicapped people and women, regarding the issue of selective abortion in Japan.  The author ambitiously attempts to de-Westernize and de-masculinize the concept of ‘right’ by theorizing how these two movements understood, supported and practiced the term ‘right’.
