Special Issue: Exploring the Print World of Early Modern Iberia

This Special Issue of the Bulletin of Spanish Studies coincides with the appearance of Iberian Books: Libros Ibéricos (IB), the first modern survey of printing in Spain, Portugal and the New World. The volume contains eight articles from leading international specialists in the field, each of which explore elements of the complex and rich book world of Renaissance Iberia. There are important considerations of the broad contours of Iberian publishing, of how that Iberian experience contrasts with the broader European geography of print, of music printing, of printing in Catálan, and of publishing in colonial America. There are also forensic treatments of specific aspects of print culture, including the dedicatory practices of the Spanish Humanist Andrés de Laguna, and the influences on Ignatius of Loyola and his Exercicios. The practice of publishers outsourcing projects is considered via a detailed analysis of La Cruz de Cristo, a fabulous bibliographic detective story. Exploring the Print World of Early Modern Iberia is a testament to the value in investigating book history form both macroscopic and microscopic perspectives.
