MPP 3rd conference: Congratulations to the best poster and pitch winners

Students from the 2nd year onward prepared poster presentations of their ongoing research plans providing a unique opportunity for an interactive discussion with MPP faculty and fellow colleagues. Close to 80 works were on display and were judged by a MIT Faculty panel that elected the 6 best posters for a pitch presentation during the conference’s 2nd day. The students had 10 minutes to present their work to an attentive audience that cast their votes. Paulo Melo’s presentation gather most of the votes from the public constituted by students, researchers, faculty and company representatives, and was awarded with the first place; Carlos Lima Azevedo was awarded with the second place and Helena Monteiro with the third place. Filipe Soares, Gabriel Pinto Mendes and Nelson Oliveira saw their work recognized with Honorable Mentions.

The six research works presented were the following:

  • 1st Place: Muscle dynamics identification for functional electrical stimulation control applications by Paulo L. Melo , Bioengineering PhD student at IST
  • 2nd Place: Automatic vehicle trajectory extraction by aerial remote sensing by Carlos Lima Azevedo, Transportation Systems PhD student at LNEC
  • 3rd Place: Extended life cycle assessment of low-energy houses in the Mediterranean Context by Helena Monteiro , Sustainable Energy Systems PhD student at CIE, UC

Honorable mentions:

  • Impact of the Deployment of Electric Vehicles in Grid Operation and Expansion by Filipe J. Soares, Sustainable Energy Systems PhD student at FEUP
  • Magneto-Transformation of Clostridium pasteurianum to increase butanol yield by Gabriel Pinto Mendes, Bioengineering PhD student at UM
  • Advanced in mold assembling technologies for high precision polymer based optical components by Nelson Oliveira, Engineering Design and Advanced ManufacturingPhD student at UM
