A Harvest of Irish Food at ESOF 2012

The Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) is Europe's largest, general science meeting and is held in a leading European city every two years. This year Dublin has been declared the City of Science 2012. It will host ESOF from July 11th - 15th.
To celebrate this prestigious international event, Teagasc, in partnership with University College Dublin, Bord Bia and Dublin Institute of Technology will host a Harvest of Irish Food. This event is to showcase the the unique combination of Irish food culture and tradition with the best of food science and technology in Ireland.
There will be a tour of three sites:
Teagasc (The Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority) in Ashtown
University College Dublin (UCD) in Belfield
Dublin Institute of Technology in Cathal Brugha Street
will allow you experience the best of Irish food and current food science and technology research.
This day long event will begin in Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown. Mr. Aidan Cotter CEO, the Irish Food Board, will outline the sustainability of Irish food production. Professor Gerry Boyle, Director of Teagasc, will outline the role of science-based innovation in developing the Irish food sector. Delegates will be treated to an early morning Irish Summer Breakfast breakfast during the presentations.
This will then be followed by a series of demonstrations under the research theme ‘conversion of Ireland’s high quality raw materials into food and food products’ as demanded by today’s consumer.
You will then travel across Dublin city to experience the ‘science of personalised nutrition’ at University College Dublin, followed by the ‘past, present and future of food’ at Dublin Institute of Technology. The day will end in Trinity College Dublin with an Irish dinner. Delegates will experience the best of Irish seasonal ingredients from Bord Bia (the Irish Food Board) Quality Assured suppliers.
