Next-Generation Sequencing Meeting: Applications in genetic and infectious diseases

05 November 2012 — 05 November 2012 Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge

Recent years have witnessed the emergence of new sequencing technologies that are revolutionizing the approach to public health problems. These “next-generation” sequencing technologies greatly facilitate and speed the identification of new mutations in undiagnosed genetic diseases as well as the characterization of microbial agents at high risk to public health. Moreover, because of the constantly decreasing costs of genome sequencing, next-generation technologies are progressively becoming an integral part of the diagnostic set-up of genetic and infectious diseases.

Aware of the changes promoted by next-generation technologies, the National Health Institute Doutor Ricardo Jorge organizes a meeting gathering researchers carrying out work in the diagnosis and investigation of human diseases. Moreover, technological updates in sequencing platforms and their applications in public health issues will be presented.
