Who we are
Since its foundation by the UK's Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council in 1998, AlphaGalileo has successfully promoted research by supporting the communication between the scientists, journalists and the public.
The funding of AlphaGalileo has been provided at various times by the European Commission and the governments of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, with support from research and science promotion bodies in Belgium, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
Since 2003, the service has operated as an independent not-for-profit company, the AlphaGalileo Foundation. It is funded by a combination of mainly subscriptions, supported by commercial sponsorship and grants.

The Foundation is governed by Company Members, who are similar to Trustees or shareholders. The Members appoint the Board of Directors, who manages the company on a day-to-day basis.
The Foundation believes that communication of scientific research is fundamental to the creation of knowledge based societies.
AlphaGalileo Foundation is based in London.
AlphaGalileo is an expert in promoting research to the world's media. Through the Communiqué initiative, that the Foundation ran in collaboration with the European Commission in 2005, it acquired an unrivalled over-view of European research media relations.
