Glutathione and Related Thiols in Living Cells - ESF-EMBO Symposium

04 September 2011 — 09 September 2010 European Science Foundation

This conference is in its second cycle after a very successful meeting in Nancy (France) in 2008. The aim of this conference is to discuss cutting-edge developments in our attempts to understand the emerging mechanisms associated with redox processes in living cells. Thiols will form the central theme. The keywords describing the conference are redox, thiols, iron-sulfur, cysteine, thiol/disulfide exchange reactions, oxidative stress, antioxidant capacity, redox regulation and signaling, reactive oxygen species, glutathione, mycothiol, trypanothione, detoxification, peroxiredoxins, sulfenic acid, and oxidative protein folding. By bringing together world-leading scientists from different research areas and with varied expertise, but with a shared interest in thiol biology, we expect to cross-fertilise different ideas and new concepts, and to catalyse scientific progress in the redox field. The conference format includes lectures by invited high-level speakers, short talks by young & early stage researchers, poster sessions, and a ‘Forward look’ discussion session. We encourage ‘off the record’ presentations of previously unpublished scientific results. Young scientists are encouraged to apply for a meeting and travel grant.
